She used to be a gentle soul--friendly,
loving and kind.
But then someone whispered secrets,
though false they were,about a woman
Gerty envied.

So the match was now lit, and Gerty
added words to the flame of which she
should have been ashamed!
But 'twasn't so--for she was all aglow--
keeping busy feeding the fire of gossip--
and she did it so well!
After many years of lies, deceit,
spreading unkind words about innocent
people, Gerty passed away.
Although many knew her near and far,
only four came to say their goodbyes--
no more.
